Welcome to Lions Ski Club

Improve Your Skiing

Great Tuition • Great Value • Great Fun

Lions Ski Club is run entirely by volunteers. Members meet to ski on Sunday mornings at SnoZone, Castleford.

We have been instructing and coaching skiers for almost forty years and are proud to have helped so many people learn to ski and develop their skiing skills.

Lion’s racers have gone on to represent the club, their regions and Great Britain in racing to great success. Perhaps more importantly members enjoy skiing together, developing their skills and having fun.

Our qualified instructors and coaches will help you and your family develop your skiing skills regardless of whether you’re just moving on from the basics right through to high level race training.

In addition to the Sunday morning sessions the race team have an additional session on Monday evenings which is open to members by invitation only.

Mini mayhem results from this morning. Well done everyone and thanks to the helpers! 😀 ... See MoreSee Less

Lions Ski Club at Snozone

Sometimes it's enough just to know that the efforts of our volunteers are recognised and appreciated! 🙂

Well done to everyone who has kept Lions developing skiers for over 45 years!! 😲

An email from a soon to be ex member of the club -

"Hi

I hope you and all the gang are well?

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that, sadly, we won't be renewing our membership this year. Cricket and rugby have won out, and cricket matches are continuing throughout the summer, so we won't even get chance for a spot of summer skiing as we did last year.

I cannot thank you and the rest of the volunteers at Lions enough. You really have given xxxxx a skill for life and also significantly helped me (and even my dad!) improve our skiing. Most importantly, we all had great fun and it is the friendly, happy people that we shall miss the most.

I should very much like to give a small token of our appreciation, but I've been struggling to think what would work....... Do you have an instructors' social perhaps? If so, would you mind if I transferred some money to you to buy everyone a beer?

Wishing you and all the skiers (young and old!) the very best for the future."

A belated round up of the British Championships held in Tignes, France over Easter.

Four Lions competing: Elliott B – U16 (Kandahar Racing), Lucas E – U16 (Apex), Grace B – U14 (Kandahar Racing) and Izzy N – U12 (Inspire (International ski racing by EDEP)).

The standout was definitely Elliott, blitzing the competition in the Super G race with a massive 1.45 second victory margin ….. chapeau!!! After a blip in the Slalom with a DNF (Did Not Finish), he was back on great form in the Giant Slalom with a solid second place. These results gave Elliott an overall silver medal in the U16 Men’s competition, no mean feat fore someone who started their skiing career on the slope at Castleford!!! Well done!!

Lucas was unfortunately DNF in his races but is a first year U16 and will likely be battling for a podium places next year when he will be at the older end of the U16 group.

Grace put in some solid performances gaining some top 10 runs in the U14 girls, a great foundation for moving up to U16 next year.

Izzy didn’t have her best GS race ever with a heavy fall on run 1 and agonisingly skiing out on the second run with only metres to the line and time in hand. She will hopefully be back on the podium again next year when at the older end of the U12 group.

Massive congratulations to these kids, not just for being there and competing, but putting in some great performances and showing what can be done from humble beginnings on an indoor slope!

Big credit to the Lions coaches and all the kids alpine training academies!

Well done, you should be proud, we are!! 😊

A massive well done to Elliott, a great way to end your children's racing career and move up to FIS racing.

All the best for next season, when the going really will be tough, racing international races (and Austrian kids with beards 😉 ) week in, week out! 👍

Look forward to seeing you (and family) at Lions over the Summer! 🙂And that’s it, season done. As always a massive thanks to the family, team and sponsors for the support. Ending the season happy with my skiing as it’s going in the right direction. There’s been many ups and downs this season with a good start and some inconsistent results along with some dnf’s coming towards the end. But all in all I’m happy to end the season with a second in gs today after a disappointing first run full of mistakes leaving me 8th, a second overall and a win in Sg. It’s also the end of children’s racing for me so the constant battles with the little man @tedslade have come to an end. And I move into fis next season ready to start again.

Finally, the alpine season is over, nearly everyone is back in the UK, so it must be time to get back to the serious stuff 😉 …….. Mini Mayhem is back this coming Sunday (28/4!!! 🥳

Competitive categories for everyone born 2007 and later; if you are older then still come along and have some timed runs in the course.

The alpine off-season is always the best time for training at Lions: quieter slope, lots of instructors and less trainees - this is the period that makes the real difference for our most promising skiers!

Looking forward to seeing all the smiling faces and catching up with everyone after a long Easter break.
